BIO

Communication is vital to life. All organisms do it to survive using body language, sounds, and smells. Bats use echolocation, dogs wag their tails when they’re happy, and some plants have thorns that say, “come near me and I’ll kill you.” But human beings have words, and some human beings are really good at putting words together in an eloquent manner in order to persuade, sell, or entertain.

Rachel Shulhafer is one of those human beings. With a bachelor’s of science in journalism and telecommunications from Ball State University, she has a keen eye for detail. She spent most of her college career focusing on copy editing, so errors stick out of pages as if they’re 3-D. She's fluent in AP Style, and has been formally trained in writing for newspapers, magazines, websites, and broadcast.

She is currently an assistant producer and editor at Videobred, Inc. in Louisville, Ky., where she has worked on creative projects for clients such as the Food Literacy Project, Woodford Reserve, Doe Anderson, Reality Check, Inc., and several political candidates. Most recently, she worked with local writer, Bill Doolittle and video pioneer, Dave Shulhafer to produce visual content for The Kentucky Derby, a book filled with history of the most exciting two minutes in sports. What makes the book unique is its use of Digimarc Technology, a new feature that allows print publications to come to life. Just download the free Digimarc app onto your smartphone or tablet, scan a picture that has the Digimarc watermark, and a video will play, taking you back in time to some of the early Derbies, or even just explaining how to make the best mint julep ever.

Rachel is also currently the Kentucky writer for Only In Your State.

In 2014,  Rachel had a stint as a sports writer for LEO Weekly’s blog “Score,” and wrote several articles about sports and entertainment for the print edition. Additionally,  she has written website copy for local musician Kelsey Lee.

Her services include short and long form article writing, copy writing, blogging, sports writing, website copy, and editing. To contact Rachel, click here.
